Information JourneyDeck handles

Journey and location information

When you tap Start Journey, JourneyDeck may use your iPhone’s precise location, timing, speed, heading, and accuracy information to record a route and derive trip details such as distance and drive time. JourneyDeck 2.0 never begins a journey automatically. The iPhone records the GPS route and stores it locally first. Location is optional, but route recording cannot work without it.

JourneyDeck requests background location only so a journey you intentionally started can continue while your iPhone is locked or another app is open. You can change or revoke Location access in iOS Settings.

Profile, labels, memories, and photos

JourneyDeck can store the profile name you choose, place labels, Journeys, Memories that group one or more Journeys, journey notes, and photos you choose to attach. Photos are requested only when you select them.

Optional music features

You may use Apple Music history for automatic soundtracks or manually tap Identify Song to use ShazamKit for an individual track. ShazamKit uses the microphone only after you tap Identify Song, listens briefly for that one match, and then turns the microphone off. JourneyDeck does not record, retain, or upload microphone audio.

Optional Apple services

Sign in with Apple and private iCloud continuity are optional. When iCloud sync is enabled, JourneyDeck may sync journey records, routes, labels, Memories, selected photos, and preferences to your private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account.

Optional membership purchases

When you buy or restore a JourneyDeck Membership, Apple processes the payment. RevenueCat receives purchase and transaction information and a randomly assigned anonymous customer identifier to reconcile subscriptions and report billing activity. JourneyDeck does not send your journey archive, routes, photos, music history, profile name, or Sign in with Apple identifier to RevenueCat.

Anonymous diagnostics and performance

JourneyDeck uses Expo EAS Observe to understand production reliability. Expo may process a random per-installation identifier, app/build/update identifiers, device and operating-system characteristics, startup and rendering timings, update-download performance, memory-pressure warnings, JavaScript error information, and privacy-safe recorder lifecycle events. JourneyDeck does not attach route coordinates, addresses, place names, journey titles, photos, music names, Apple identity, or account identifiers to these events.

How information is used and shared

JourneyDeck uses this information to record and display journeys, build your private archive, show optional music context, protect sensitive-place presentation in share cards, provide optional private iCloud continuity, and respond to support requests.

JourneyDeck does not use personal information for targeted advertising, cross-app tracking, or sale. It does not share your precise route with advertisers. Map displays may retrieve tiles from the configured map provider. Optional Apple services, RevenueCat purchase processing, and Expo’s update and diagnostics services process only the information described here.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

Journey data remains on your iPhone until you delete it, delete the relevant profile, or remove the app. If you enable private iCloud continuity, deleting your JourneyDeck account or profile in the app is intended to remove that profile’s synced private CloudKit data as well.

You can revoke Location, Music, Microphone, Photos, and iCloud permissions in iOS Settings. For privacy or deletion requests that cannot be completed in the app, contact us.

Security, children, and changes

JourneyDeck uses iOS-provided secure storage for sensitive local credentials such as an optional owner-backup token. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but JourneyDeck is designed to minimize server dependency and keep private journey data under your control.

JourneyDeck is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy as JourneyDeck changes; the current version and effective date will be posted here.
